'Uuf Kya...' music endearing but not memorable

The Rajshris have always been associated with successful chartbusting music. The hit score Ram Laxman gave in "Maine Pyar Kiya" and "Hum Aapke Hain Koun" is now a thing of the past. That leaves the coast clear for experimental modes of music to seep into the musically plush production house.

Anu Malik gave a peppy and young score for the Rajshri's last film "Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon". And now, the upcoming Sandesh Shandilya has done a mildly engaging young score that doesn't really cross the line between serviceable and stunning.

Rather, the 10 tracks hover with weary energy in a place removed from truly path-breaking romantic musicals.

A clarity of expression runs through the title track as Sunidhi Chauhan sings it. And since the redoubtable Richard Clayderman joins her on the piano, Sunidhi has much reason to swing in supreme bliss.

Earlier she has sung in blithe abandon for composer Sandesh Shandilya in "Chameli". The two seem made for each other.

Like Rajshri's previous romance "Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon", "Uff Kya..." has loads of tunes to offer. But they're all done in a mutedly mushy manner.

There're 10 pieces, of which some like "Tum pe" (Chithra, Sonu Nigam), "Jagmug" (Chithra) and "Dekar dil" (Vinod Rathod, KK, Sunidhi, Runa) are space-fillers. The album just about makes us gurgle and giggle in fits and starts.

Clearly the title song with Clayderman's key contribution is the centrepiece of this endearing but hardly-memorable knickknack of an album.
