New Delhi, June 25 (IANS) Just when Sony Pictures' "Hancock" was set to give tough competition to newcomer Harman Baweja's launch pad "Love Story 2050" by releasing on the same day, the former has been postponed by a week to "provide relief to Indian competition".

Both films are based on a sci-fi theme and were to be released July 4 but now "Hancock" would be released July 11.

"This move of extending the release date one week further will definitely give some relief to Indian competitors as Sony Pictures believes in healthy competition.

"There are also a lot of differences in the other movie in terms of the technology and budget involved as compared to 'Hancock'," a statement released on behalf of Sony Pictures said.

Kersy Daruwala, the managing director of Sony Pictures, said: "'Hancock' is deeply strong in US and we want to reap the advantage of the grand US opening on the box office."

"Our distributors, exhibitors and marketing team also suggested us that if we release 'Hancock' a week later in India, we will definitely get favourable shows and a good response from the viewers of our movie. That is all we want," said Daruwala.

While popular American actor Will Smith will share screen space with Academy award winner Charlize Theron in "Hancock", debutante Harman Baweja has been paired with Priyanka Chopra in "Love Story 2050".

"Hancock" is an action genre film with a budget of over $150 million and "Love Story 2050" is primarily a love story spread across two time zones - 2007 and 2050 - and talks about what binds the two time zones.
