London, Dec 18 (IANS) Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan-starrer "Mamma Mia!" has become Britain's highest grosser, beating the box office collection of "Titanic", a record that stood for 10 years.

The Abba-inspired romantic comedy grossed 69,066,035 pounds since its release nearly 23 weeks ago, reports ananova.com.

"For 'Mamma Mia!' to make history in this way and beat 'Titanic', which has held the record in Britain since 1998, is truly phenomenal," David Kosse, president of Universal Pictures International, said.

"This film has exceeded our expectations and delighted audiences around the world since it opened in July. This box-office record is a tribute to producer Judy Craymer, director Phyllida Lloyd and our brilliant cast who worked so hard on the film."

"Mamma Mia" managed to break the record just a few days after it won two Golden Globe nominations for best picture and best actress.
