London, April 10 (IANS) A prison officer in Massachusetts is facing disciplinary action after he showed the Oscar winning movie "Brokeback Mountain" to prisoners in Norfolk, near Boston.

The unnamed official planned a screening two days after the film was released on DVD, contactmusic.com reported. His bosses soon took action saying the film is inappropriate for a prison setting.

A spokesperson for the prison said the decision to punish the official has nothing to do with the film's gay plot. He said: "It was the graphic nature of sexually explicit scenes."

The officer failed to follow guidelines that require staff to review films in advance for excessive violence, nudity, or sex as well as involving assaults on correctional staff.
