'Anna Thangi' continues onward march

Feb 21, 2006 R.G. Vijayasarathy

Bangalore, Feb 22 (IANS) "Anna Thangi", which promises to prove as big a hit as the phenomenal "Jogi", tops the fortnight's Kannada list. The top five films are:

1. "Anna Thangi" - The sentimental film has surpassed the collections of "Jogi" in many interior areas of Karnataka, though it is not a bigger hit in the major cities.

It has completed 100 days and the producer is expected to earn more than Rs.39 million from the film.

2. "Rama Shama Bhama" - Actor Ramesh Arvind's directorial venture has proved to be a money-spinner. The Kamal Haasan-starrer will shortly complete 100 days in many A centres, where it has earned substantial revenue. Youth and family audiences have been the main source of the film's box office collections.

It is expected to hit the B and C circuit shortly and the reception in those places will be watched with interest.

3. "Amruthadhare" - The film will be completing its silver jubilee run in the next two weeks. Its collections in major centres like Bangalore have been steady despite increasing competition from big films released in the past few weeks.

The film has done better than other Kannada films abroad as well. This Rs.20-million project will earn good profits for producer Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar.

4. "Mandya" - The film's collections in the five weeks since its release have not matched trade expectations, but it is in the top five list because of the failure of other big projects.

5. "Jogi" - The film has completed its silver jubilee and continues to do well in some B and C centres. Its record run in the first 10 weeks is sufficient to call it the biggest hit of 2005.
