Devaraj chosen to play Ravana on screen

Bangalore, Nov 12 (IANS) Veteran versatile actor Devaraj will play his dream role of demon king Ravana in the forthcoming Kannada film, "Prachanda Ravana", after an audience poll chose him for the part.

A group of IT software engineers, headed by Ramesh, is producing the film based on a well-known play. "Prachanda Ravana" is one of the most popular theatre productions that have had over 10,000 shows throughout Karnataka.

Popular screen villain Vajramuni played the lead role in the play written and directed by late Kanagal Prabhakara Shastry.

The choice of Devaraj was made in an unusual manner. The producers wanted the people to make a right choice and called for suggestions to be sent by SMS. The majority of the messages received in response named Devaraj.

Devaraj says it is "a great honour" for him to play the role of Ravana.
