Feb 7, 2006 R.G. Vijayasarathy

Bangalore, Feb 8 (IANS) The melodramatic "Anna Thangi" is turning out to be the biggest hit amongst the films released in 2005 and is this fortnight's number one too.

The top five Kannada films are:

1. "Anna Thangi" - Although "Jogi" has been a big hit in cities, it is "Anna Thangi" that is making waves in the interiors. Shivaraj Kumar, hero of both the films, thus becomes the star of 2005.

2. "Rama Shama Bhama" - The film has completed 50 days. A favourite with family audiences, the film is recording increasing collections. Kamal Haasan, who plays the main lead, has received a warm welcome on his return to Kannada cinema after a gap of 18 years.

3. "Sree" - It had a good opening because of the action sequences based on Thailand's Muvay martial art. The collections, however, have dropped in the second week.

4. "Amruthadhare" - The film is drawing viewers even after 20 weeks. It may become a silver jubilee hit, to the surprise of trade pundits.

5 "Jogi" - The collections of the film, which have created history, have now surpassed Rs.120 million. The appeal of the film on the Bangalore underworld is still to be fully analysed.
