A sequel to 'Irupathaam Noottandu'
May 27, 2007 NRThe K. Madhu-directed Irupathaam Noottandu, which is considered by many as a milestone in the history of mainstream Malayalam Cinema, is likely to get a sequel exactly 20 years after its making. Irupathaam Noottandu, made in 1987, was the film that catapulted Mohanlal to superstardom and is still one of the favourites of lovers of Malayalam action-thrillers. It's not K. Madhu, but Shaji Kailas who is to make the sequel, aptly titled Irupaththionnaam Noottandu (meaning '21st century' while Irupathaam Noottandu meant '20th Century').
To be scripted by S.N.Swamy, who had scripted Irupathaam Noottandu and many other hit K. Madhu films, Irupaththionnaam Noottandu will have Mohanlal and Suresh Gopi in key roles. It should be remembered that while Mohanlal played the hero, the underworld don Sagar (alias Jackie) in the original, Suresh Gopi was the villain - Jackie's friend-turned-foe Shekharankutty. In the sequel, Jackie is out of jail and by that time Shekharankutty is the State Home Minister. Things take a totally new turn after this.
Irupaththionnaam Noottandu will be produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the banner of Ashirwad Cinemas and will be shot in Kochi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Ahmedabad. The film will take off only after the completion of Shaji Kailas' Mohanlal film Ali Bhai, shooting of which has just begun.
