Dubai, Nov 7 (IANS) To celebrate the golden jubilee of the formation of Kerala, a film festival showcasing select works of noted south Indian filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan was inaugurated in Muscat.

The "Adoor Film Fest" was inaugurated Monday by Indian High Commissioner to Oman Ashok Kumar Attri.

"Adoor Gopalakrishnan certainly does not need any introduction in the Malayali community in particular and Indian film in general," he said. The five films being featured are classic works of Adoor and display his extraordinary talent in film direction, he said.

The festival is being organised by Muscat's Indian Social Club (ISC) and is supported by the Indian mission, according to Oman Tribune.

Abraham Mathew, convener, ISC Malayalam wing, said the film festival was being organised as part of the 10th anniversary celebrations of ISC Malayalam wing and the golden jubilee of the formation of the state of Kerala.

There is a huge population of Indians in the Middle East, most coming from Kerala and other south Indian states.
