Alphonse Kannanthanam MLA Takes to Acting
Feb 6, 2009 NRBureaucrat-turned-politician K.J. Alphonse Kannanthanam wears the grease paint in 'Ee Koodaram' directed by Anas B, who had earlier worked as assistant to several directors. Alphonse Kannanthanam shot to prominence as the Commissioner of the Delhi Development Authority, bulldozing numerous illegal constructions in the city without caring a hoot about who the owners of the buildings were, and what political connections they had.
Alphonse Kannanthanam quit the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 2006, entered politics, stood as an independent candidate backed by the Left Democratic Front in his home town of Kanjirappilly, and became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA). Kannanthanam plays the role of an upright and forthright Chief Minister in 'Ee Koodaram'.
The film is produced by V. Somanathan under the banner of V.S Productions. Director Anas B, who does the script for the film too, is also a native of Kanjirappilly, Kannanthanam's constituency. R.H. Ashok and Faisal Khalid crank the camera for the film, while P.C. Mohan does the editing. The cast also includes Alex, Tony, Prajeesh, Krishna, Nitheesh, Charmila, Sona Nair, Kanakalatha and Kulappulli Leela among others.
