Anil Ram - A singer on the rise

Jayaraj has always specialized in bringing out fresh talent through his films. And his new film Of the People, the third in a trilogy, too showcases some fresh talent. And among these we find Anil Ram who is being introduced, or to be precise re-introduced by Jayaraj as a singer.

Anil Ram, who hails from Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram district, is not new to songs or singing, not even to singing in films. Anil, who has been groomed in classical music, has been doing concerts as part of the troupe ASIMA, based in Kerala and performing worldwide.

This young singer, who is presently working with Club FM 94.3 as a sound-recordist, had made his debut as a film singer in 1998 in the V.R. Gopinath-directed Poothiruvaathiraraavil, in which he sang a melodious solo "Poornatha thedum…". The film, which was not a commercial venture, did no good to Anil's career in films. Nobody ever heard of the singer or the song.

Now with Of the People, Anil Ram comes up again, singing "Taj Taj Taj Mahal…", a duet along with Sayanora. The song is penned by Kaithapram Damodaran Namboothiri and set to tune by debutante Vinu M. Thomas. Anil, like all other debutantes in the film, hopes that the film does as well as For the People had done a few years back, and would provide a fillip to his fledgling career as a playback singer. Let's hope this sweet voiced young singer gets noted and goes places from here. All the best!
