'Chirpy Masam' tops the chart

Kochi, July 31 (IANS): The lilting music of Malayalam films is keeping fans humming the numbers days after the films have faded away from the theatres.


Take the case of "Kakkakurumban". Though the Siddhartha-Meenakshi starrer bombed at the box office, its "Chembakame" is the third favourite number this week. With music by M Jayachandran, lyrics by Gireesh Puthenchery, the song has been sung by Madhu Balakrishnan.



The number topping the charts is the chirpy "Masam" from the film "Aparichithan". Jyotsna, Renjini Jose and Suresh Peters have blended their voices well to bring out the vivacious character of the three leading ladies, Manya, Karthika and Kavya Madhavan. The music is by Suresh Peters and lyrics by Gireesh Puthenchery.


Music fans have opted for "Mamazhayile" from the film "Mayilattam", as the second most favourite number. Rambha dances to the fast-paced tune set to music by M jayachandran. Sujatha has captivated listeners with her rendering of Gireesh Puthenchery's lyrics.


With "Chembakame" at the third spot, "Pranayagopura" from the film "Aparichithan" is at number four. This lilting melody of love has been set to music by Suresh Peters with lyrics by Gireesh Puthenchery. Sreenivasan and Sujatha have brought out their best in this number.


At the fifth spot this week is "Shaba Shaba", a hit with the yuppie crowd. and The lyrics by the prolific Gireesh Puthenchery for the film "Runway", it is set to music by Suresh Peters. Afsal and Sunitha Sarathhy have sung this bubbly number which has been shot in picturesque Thailand, with Dileep and Kavya Madhavan in the lead.
