Kochi, Oct 5 (IANS) The month of Ramadan is a dull period in the Malayalam film industry as collections at the box office drop and some theatres bring down the curtains for annual maintenance. Therefore, director Lal Jose's "Classmates" still continues to roost this fortnight as well.

The top five Malayalam films are:

1. "Classmates" - Director Lal Jose has been getting accolades for this film, but debutant writer James Albert and new actress Radhika are also getting attention along with a bunch of young actors like Prithviraj, Indrajith and Jayasurya.

2. "Mahasamudram" - This film grabs the second position, though it may have failed to satisfy high expectations of Mohanlal fans. It holds this place for lack of any serious competition.

3. "Keerthi Chakra" - Based on the army's counter-militancy operations in the Kashmir Valley, directed by Major Ravi, the film starring Mohanlal is still going strong at box office.

4. "Don" - Veteran director Shaji Kailas teamed up with Dileep to make an action thriller but it failed to thrill the audience.

5. "Pathaka" - K. Madhu directs Suresh Gopi in a film based on a real-life incident but the treatment of the subject disappoints.
