Dileep's performance in 'Kathavaseshan' praised
Nov 21, 2004 IANS Nov 21Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 21 (IANS): Dileep's acting in his latest film "Kathavaseshan" was one of Malayalam cinema's best ever performances, ace filmmaker T.V. Chandran has said.
"Without doubt, I would rate Dileep's character Gopinathan Menon as one of the best ever in Malayalam films and it is worth an award," Chandran told reporters here Sunday.
The film explores the issue of suicide, which has a high incidence rate in Kerala.
Dileep plays the role of an engineer who commits suicide after reading about the rape of a former neighbour, a teenaged Muslim girl, in the Gujarat riots.
Dileep said he accepted the role as soon as he heard the story from Chandran and also decided to produce the film.
"This is a film that all should see. I decided to produce it because Chandran was someone I could easily vibe with. I have done my bit and if an award comes my way, it would certainly be God's gift", he said.
The film will be screened at the Alternative Film Festival in New York early next year.
Chandran's last film "Padom Onnu Oru Villapam" won the Meera Jasmine award early this year.
