Film on V.K.Krishna Menon

Oct 25, 2007 NR

A film on a diplomat of the stature of V.K. Krishna Menon is big news indeed. And when big names join hands in the realization of the film, it becomes even bigger news. So, here comes Krishna, a film on the peerless V.K. Krishna Menon, directed by Sharath (who had earlier directed Sayahnam, Sthithi and Sheelabathi). The film is likely to start rolling by April next.

The biggest thing about the film is that it is the internationally acclaimed actor Naseeruddin Shah who will play the lead role, that of V.K. Krishna Menon. And giving him company are Mohanlal and Jimi Mistry. Jimi Mistry (who had hogged the limelight in The Guru, Partition, East is East etc) will play Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru in the film. Krishna's life will be presented as unfolding with the quest by a biographer, to be played by Mohanlal.

Shashi Tharoor has penned the script for the film and he and the director are reportedly seeking to focus more on the relationship shared between Krishna Menon and Nehru, which has been the subject of discussions at various forums. Krishna will be produced in English. Whether or not Krishna meets the same fate as Sharath's earlier announced venture, a bio-pic on Raja Ravi Varma, is anybody's guess. In the mean time as many as three other films on the noted royal artist, directed by three other prominent directors, are at the take-off stage. Here's hoping Krishna gets materialized.
