Football spells lull for Malayalam films

Kochi, June 29 (IANS) The football World Cup has brought with it a lull for Malayalam movies, with box-office collections dropping drastically.

Even a big release like "Prajapathi" starring Mammootty could only get an average opening. But that in no way stops it from topping this list:

1. "Prajapathi": Ranjith directs Mammootty in his usual flamboyant style. Mammootty's towering presence makes it worth a watch.

2. "Vadakkumnathan": Music by late Raveendran and Mohanlal's acting help this film sustain itself in theatres.

3. "Rasathantram": Lack of any serious competition has helped Mohanlal's Vishu release keep a place in the list. The film is past its prime at the box-office.

4. "Balram Vs Tharadas": The same can be said for this film with Mammootty in a double role.

5. "Kisan": The fact that this small film directed by veteran Sibi Malayil was able to drag itself into a second week at the theatres gives it a place in the list.
