Biju Viswanath may not be very popular in mainstream Malayalam Cinema, but this enterprising young director from Thiruvananthapuram is definitely going places.

Cinematographer-turned-director, Biju has directed movies like Déjà vu and Mahotsav - both of which were internationally acclaimed. In addition he has cranked the camera for some mainstream ventures in Malayalam and Tamil, apart from directing the Malayalam flick Peter Scott as well as several short films. Biju Viswanath had recently been in the news when he started making a film in Irish, titled Lorg.

And now, as Lorg is nearing completion, Biju has gone over to Connecticut in the US, where he is busy making preparations for a film based on the life of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning poet William Meredith, who passed away last year.

The movie is based on Marathon, a book by Richard Harteis, longtime companion of Meredith who cared for the poet after he suffered a stroke in 1983. Scripted by Irish poetess Celia de Freine (whose literary works form the base for Lorg), the film is in its initial stages of pre-production and is expected to get released by October this year. When contacted over phone, Biju Viswanath said, "It's rather cold out here in Connecticut and we are at present busy with the casting. As things get rolling we will definitely keep you posted".
