Industry gets ready for festival releases

Malayalam movie buffs are going to have a visual treat during Ramzan and Onam holidays. It is expected to set the cash registers ringing at box office with two megastars Mammootty and Mohanlal also joining the fray.

Fahad Fazil’s Friday directed by debutant director Lijin Jose is expected to be another film in the line of recent new wave films in Malayalam. Friday which plots the events happening on a day in Alappuzha is due to release this week (August 18). Starcast includes Ann Augustine, Nedumudi Venu, Vijayaraghavan, Tini Tom.

Dileep will be making his presence felt with Mr Marumakan directed by Sandhya Mohan, which is to be released on August 18. The movie tells the humorous story of Ashok Raj, a lawyer, whose passion is drama and obsession is his family drama troupe. Dileep does the role of Ashok Raj. Written by Udaykrishna-Siby K Thomas team, the cast includes Tamil stars Bhagyaraj and Khushboo, along with Sheela, Nedumudi Venu, and Biju Menon.

Mammootty is starring in the commercial entertainer Thappana directed by Johny Antony. The film, set to release on August 19, narrates how Samson (Mammootty) in his attempts to help Mallika (Charmy Kaur), both out from jail, lands in trouble.

Mohanlal is playing the lead role in Run Baby Run directed by veteran Joshy and produced by Milan Jaleel. The film ready to be released on the Thiruonam day (August 29) is an action- thriller where Mohanlal acts as a cameraman for a news channel. The cast includes Amala Paul, Vijayaraghavan, Biju Menon, Siddique.

Many Malayalam films are lined up to hit the theatre soon after the Onam-Ramzan festival season. Molly Aunty Rocks directed by Renjith Shankar starring Prithviraj and Revathy, Husbands in Goa directed by Saji Surendran starring Asif Ali, Indrajith, and Lal are the main releases. Apart from these Trivandrum Lodge directed by V K Prakash starring Jayasurya and Anoop Menon and Chattakkari, the remake of yesteryear super hit of the same title are also to be released soon.
