Jayasurya: from mimic to mega star

Thiruvananthapuram, June 7 (IANS): One more mimicry artiste has entered the big league in Malayalam cinema - Jayasurya.

In the past few years, especially after a flood of third-rate comic films, Malayalam cinema has been flooded with mimicry artistes.

All those who used to make a living by imitating superstars have become film stars in their own right. Dilip is one actor who has moved to greater heights.

Jayasurya's early days in the film industry were quite bad as nobody was willing to give a chance to one more mimicry artiste. But he was determined.

Luck favoured him when film director Vinayan noticed him in a TV programme and signed him as a hero for "Oomapenninu Uriyada Payyan".

But Jayasurya could not display his mimicry talent in the film as he was playing a deaf and dumb man. The film didn't do well. He was the hero of the Tamil version too but that too was not a success.

It was "Swapnakkoodu", one of the biggest hits of last year, that made Jayasurya hot property. As Ashtamurthi, he sparkled in the film. He couldn't

take full credit for the success of the film as Kunchako Boban and Prithviraj too featured in the multi-hero film.

Now Jayasurya can take credit for the success of "Chathikkatha Chandu", where he is the sole hero, though Vineet plays a parallel role.
