Kaavyam : Delving into issues

Feb 3, 2008 NR

Kaavyam, the debut directorial venture of Aneesh Verma and Santhosh (Aneesh Verma had earlier directed a film in Tamil named Annai Illam), is a film that discusses many relevant issues. With Suresh Gopi and Navya Nair playing lead roles, the film has the Namboothiri community (a Brahmin community of Kerala) as the backdrop and works out a contrast between traditional and modern values based on the principles of commercial gains and consumerism.

The central characters of the film are Kunjunni Namboothiri, a member of the Brahmamangalam Mana (traditional Brahmin household), who had left home years back and returns now with his young wife Umadevi and a child. It's Suresh Gopi who plays Kunjunni while Navya gets a meaty role after a long time as Umadevi. Manoj K. Jayan, Vjayaraghavan, Kunjan, Nedumbram Gopi, Manraj (earlier Manuraj), Machan Verghese, Archana, Kaviyoor Ponnamma etc form the rest of the cast.

Kaavyam has as its highlight lyrics by Sudhamshu, music by Kaithapram Viswanath, cinematography by Selvakumar, story by Santhosh Kaimal, script by well-known writer Alamcode Leelakrishnan and art-direction by Bawa. Saji Kadambazhippuram produces the film under the banner of Sai Baba Films. Kaavyam is currently being shot on locations near Ottapaalam, especially in the Varikkasseri Mana.
