Nov 5, 2007 NR

Kalavoor Ravikumar, who has penned scripts for some successful and some not-so-successful films (Ishtam, Nammal, Manjupoloru Penkutty, Choonda, Goal etc), has now turned to direction. His maiden directorial venture takes up for discussion some very relevant environmental issues.

Oridaththoru Puzhayundu, which is all ready for release, takes us to a place to which some people from Tamil Nadu, including a young girl Sumangala, have migrated after they were forced to leave their village due to drought. Sumangala gets separated from her people and happens to come into the fold of a family, comprising of Venu, his wife Lakshmi and their son Sandeep. Venu and his family decide to help Sumangala out. But for the little girl, separation from her near and dear ones is not the only problem. She has other problems that are even more grave.

Oridaththoru Puzhayundu has debutante child artiste Jayasri Sivadas in the role of Sumangala while Goutham, another debutante child artist plays Sandeep. K.B. Venu plays the role of Venu, who is a journalist-cum-television anchor. Incidentally this is also K.B. Venu's debut appearance in films. Meera Jasmine's sister Jenny, who was earlier seen in Goal, does the role of Lakshmi. Noted poet Balachandran Chullikad does a key role in the film. Also in the cast are Murugan, Rikhil, Shalin, Swathi etc.

Kalavoor Ravikumar hasn't scripted the film himself but has instead entrusted the work to Jiju Ashokan. S.G. Raman, former associate of noted cinematographer S. Kumar, who had done the cinematography for Iruvattam Manavatty, is the cinematographer for Oridaththoru Puzhayundu. The film has elicited much appreciation at preview screenings.
