Kochi, Aug 8 (IANS) The same numbers dominate the Malayalam songscape as last week -- except for the entry of "Aalilayum" from the film "Veeraaleepattu".

The top five Malayalam songs are:

1. "Kadukkittu" - Film: "Hello"; Music: Alex Paul; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: M.G. Sreekumar and Sangeetha Prabhu. In a mass 'masala' film, songs like "Kadukkittu" are mandatory because they give fans an opportunity to shake a leg with their hero.

2. "Thirike" - Film: "Arabikatha"; Music: Bijibal; Lyrics: Anil Panachooran; Singer: Yesudas. This is a situational song from a realistic film conveying the memories of homeland that haunt a Malayali in the Gulf.

3. "Kattupoocha" - Film: "July 4"; Music: Ouseppachan; Lyrics: Shibu Chakravarthy; Singers: Afsal and Sayonara. The Dileep film has been ousted from the top five films list, but the song continues to be popular with the masses.

4. "Chella Thamara" - Film: "Hello"; Music: Alex Paul; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: K.S. Chitra and Sangeetha Prabhu. Chitra's voice works its magic in the song that depicts the heroine's vivacity.

5. "Aalilayum" - Film: "Veeraaleepattu"; Music: Viswajith; Lyrics: Sarath Varma; Singers: Vineeth Sreenivasan and Manjiri. The song seems to have been included in the film only to pull in the crowds. Whether it succeeds in its mission or not is open to debate.
