Malayalam film industry on revival path
Oct 1, 2005 IANS, Oct 1Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 1 (IANS) The Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (Macta) is buoyant over the revival of the local film industry, with all films released during the Onam season becoming major hits.
"Certainly this is welcome news for all of us in the industry," veteran film director Sibi Malayail, chairman of Macta, told reporters here Saturday.
He said that constant vigil against video piracy, cuts in cost of production and better harmony between various film organisations had made this possible.
Films starring the four superstars in the industry have been greeted with gusto at theatres. They include Mammooty's "Neru Ariyan CBI"; Mohanlal's "Naran"; Suresh Gopi's "Bharatchandran IPS" and Dileep's "Chandpottu".
Ace director Kamal, the general secretary of Macta, said unlike in the past when mutual attrition and other issues dragged down film bodies, things were much better now.
"Definitely, when there is harmony among us, the atmosphere in the shooting arena becomes easier and working becomes a pleasure," said Kamal.
Macta denied any knowledge of a ban on thespian actor Thilakan and veteran comedian Jagathy Sreekumar.
"Maybe the producer's association is having issues with Sreekumar but none of the directors here are aware of any such ban. We have no such communication from anyone. As far as I know they are acting," said Kamal.
The producers association is upset with Sreekumar for allegedly violating his contracts with producers.
