Malayalam serials my bread and butter: Geetha Vijayan

Thiruvananthapuram, May 10 (IANS) Geetha Vijayan, who was a top Malayalam film heroine during the 90's, does not regret her switch to TV roles, which she calls her "bread and butter".

Having started off as a heroine "In Hariharnagar", a 1990 roaring comedy, Geetha went on to do more than 50 Malayalam films before she succumbed to the lure of the small screen.

Inspired by cousin Revathi, an acclaimed actress in the south, Geetha donned greasepaint quite early on in life, she said while shooting here.

"Having a godfather in the industry is as important as good public relations. Since I had neither, my career lost its momentum. But with my success in television, I have no grievances at all," Geetha told IANS.

She said that her only agenda was to remain a full-fledged professional actress.

"I am choosy when it comes to film roles because a film clashes with my TV serial work, which is my bread and butter today," said the Malaysian-born Keralite actress whose husband Satish is a model based in Chennai.

Within a short span of time, Geetha has already completed five serials and is currently busy with two mega serials that are on air.

"I have no problems doing vamp or comic roles because Kerala's woman audiences have accepted me in full. From the feedback I get, I am happy because the audience is mature enough to realise that I am just doing my job as an actress," she said.

Looking back, Geetha counts herself lucky to be professionally busy as several of her co-actresses have disappeared from the scene.

"I won't and can't be choosy when it comes to television because I have to be seen to be remembered. But I will do only two mega serials at a time because I do not want to be away from home for more than three weeks in a month," she said.

She also unfailingly bags a role in most of Priyadarshan's films.

"I did 'Vettam', his last Malayalam film, and also his Hindi remake of 'Thenmavin Kombathu' - 'Saath Rang Ke Sapne'. In his 'Malamaal Weekly', too, I have a role," added Geetha.
