Kochi, Oct 16 (IANS) In what is believed to be the first instance in the banking history in south India, superstar Mammootty was Monday roped in by Kerala-based South Indian Bank as its brand ambassador.

The actor signed a contract with the bank for three years.

"I am really happy because this is the first time in south India that a bank has appointed a brand ambassador. The contract is for three years," Mammootty told IANS after the contract.

He, however, did not disclose the contracted amount.

"I accepted the offer as South Indian Bank is currently poised for huge growth and has got sound finances," said Mammootty, who is at present endorsing Kerala government's IT project Akshaya.

South Indian Bank has 250 branches across the country.
