'Munthiri Padam' tops Malayalam charts
May 20, 2005 Paresh C. Palicha, May 20Kochi, May 20 (IANS) There has been no major upheaval in the music charts, except for a song from "Kochi Rajavu" making it to the top and a number from the yet to be released Mammootty starrer "Taskaraveeran" also finding a place.
The top five Malayalam songs are:
1. "Munthiri Padam" - Film: "Kochi Rajavu". Music: Vidyasgar. Lyrics: Gireesh Puthenchery. Singers: Udit Narayan and Sujatha. Udit Narayan made his mark in the Malayalam film music world with "CID Moosa" a few years ago. Here also he uses his lilting voice to good effect.
2. "Muttathethum" - Film: "Chandrolsavam". Music: Vidyasgar. Lyrics: Gireesh Puthenchery. Singer: K.J. Yesudas. The popularity of this Yesudas song has not diminished, though the film has failed to create ripples at the box office.
3. "Karppaka Malare" - Film: "Thommanum Makkalum". Music: Alex Paul. Lyrics: Kaithapram. Singers: Afsal, Madhu Balakrishnan, Pradeep Palluruthy, Vipin and Savitha Krishnamoorty. This celebratory song rendered by a group of singers makes its comeback on this list.
4. "Karale Karalinte" - Film: "Udayananu Tharam". Music: Deepak Dev. Lyrics: Kaithapram. Singers: Vineeth Sreenivas and Remi Tomy. This fun song refuses to budge from this list. Going by its popularity, it will not be surprising if this song is termed a modern classic in the very near future.
5. "Chenthamaraye Vaa" - Film: "Taskaraveeran". Music: Ouseppachan. Lyrics: Rajendran M D. Singer: Madhu Balakrishnan. The inordinate delay in the release of the film has made no dent in the popularity of its music.
