Music director Chidambaranath passes away

Noted music director of yesteryears B.A. Chidambaranath passed away on Friday, August 31st at the age of 83. Chidambaranath, who was suffering from cancer for some time, was living in Chennai and was away from films for the past many years. Born in Bhoothapandi in Kanyakumari district of Tamil Nadu, he spent the best part of his early life in Kerala and got groomed under his father B.K. Arunachalam.




Chidambaranath made his debut in cinema by composing the songs for the Malayalam film Vellinakshatram (1946) and then went on to score the music for many acclaimed films and many memorable songs including "Karayunno puzha chirikkunno…" (Murapennu), "Keshaadipaadam thozhunne…" (Pakalkinaavu), "Pakalkinaavin …" (Pakalkinaavu), "Suruma nalla suruma…" (Kayamkulam Kochunni), "Omanathinkal…" (Sthree) etc. He had also composed many devotional songs including "Gangayaaru pirakkunnu…" and was popular in Tamil too. Chidambaranath leaves behind his legacy to son and popular music director Rajamani, one of his six children.
