Film: "Nammal Thammil"; Music Director: M. Jayachandran; Lyrics: Gireesh Puthenchery; Music Company: Manorama Music

The music of Malayalam film "Nammal Thammil", a campus-caper that has been in the making for the last couple of years, is a mixed bag.

The album begins with the romantic "Junile nilamazhayil". The blend of Yesudas' sonorous voice and Sujatha's sensuous trill works magic. The music arrangement has slow Western interludes, which leave enough scope for a fast-paced remixed version in the near future.

The second offering is "Pottu thottu", a song with a bhangra beat rendered by Madhu Balakrishnan. The lyrics suggest that it is placed when the heroine enters the campus and the hero and his gang tease her.

"Siyona", sung by Vidhu Prathap and Ranjini Jose, is a typical song that tries to capture the young lovers' excitement at physical proximity.

The first half of the album ends with "Priyane", a light classical number rendered by Sujatha.

The second half begins with a surprise bonus track, "Manikuyile", a duet by Yesudas and Sujatha from the movie "Vaalkannadi".

It is followed by the solo rendering of "Junile nilamazhayil" by Sujatha. "Uyire" is the male voice version of "Priyane" by Yesudas, sung with a slight change in the lyrics.

The culmination of the album is in the ultimate campus song "Kabaddi kabaddi". With a folksy tune rendered by Afsal and Remmi Tomi, it is sure to make teenagers dance on the aisles while watching the movie in the theatre. You are sure to press the rewind button a couple of times if you love dance numbers.
