Kochi, Oct 4 (IANS) Onam films are still ruling the box office in Kerala. This situation is likely to continue for some time as theatres generally take a break during the holy month of Ramzan.

The top five Malayalam films are:

1. "Chaandupottu": This film has reaped the benefits of the season to the hilt. Family audiences in urban centres are thronging theatres to see Dileep portray an unusual character.

2. "Naran": Mohanlal gets a thumbs-up from his fans. This film has rekindled the natural spark in the actor that was missing for some time now.

3. "Nerariyan CBI": Mammootty salvages the film with a hackneyed storyline. The fourth instalment in the CBI series falls short of expectations.

4. "Bharathchandran IPS": The quintessential cop of Malluwood is back with a bang. Suresh Gopi's return to form has given a fillip to the industry as a whole.

5. "Lokanathan IAS": Kalabhavan Mani's effort to create an alternative star system takes a beating this time around. This typical 'masala' film has failed to create any ripples at the box office.
