Veteran theatre personality and film actor Rajan P. Dev passed at a private hospital in Kochi at 6.30 a.m. this morning. The actor, who was 58, was undergoing treatment for liver disorder. Born in Cherthala in Alappuzha Distirct, Rajan P. Dev was basically a theatre personality, having directed many plays and portrayed many memorable characters of different shades. His most delectable performance was that of Kochuvava in 'Kattukuthira', based on a play penned by S.L. Puram Sadanandan. ('Kattukuthira' was also made into a film, but it was Thilakan who donned the role of Kochuvava in the film).

It was after 'Kattukuthira' that Rajan P. Dev got his first notable role in films, that of Carlose in the Thampy Kannamthaanam-directed 'Indrajaalam'. And then, there was no looking back for him. He went on doing different types of characters, mostly as the villain and sometimes as the villainous cop, in Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu films. He had also done with ease serious character roles as well as humour-oriented ones.

A versatile actor, Rajan P. Dev continued to be associated with the theatre, managing his own troupe, Cherthala Jubilee Theatres. He had also directed films like 'Achamakuttiyude Achayan' and Achante Kochumolkku'. 'Ee Pattanathil Bhootham' is Rajan P. Dev's last released film.
