Cochin, Aug.17 (NR): The natives of Thrissur wouldn't have forgotten Raju and his mother. Raju, a mentally retarded person and his old mother were the inhabitants of the cultural capital of the state for several years.

The mother and son had reached Thrissur several years back and chose to stay at Thekkinkad Maithanam thereafter. They never begged but managed to survive by the kind donations that passers by offered them.

Its said that the woman and her son had taken refuge at the Maithanam after her daughter in Mumbai had thrown her out of the house. However, she continued to receive a money order every month from her daughter, and the postmen over the years saw to it that it was promptly delivered though Raju and his mother had no permanent address.

Raju died a few years back leaving his mother alone for a while. The mother too passed away three years back, but those faces are still remembered by everyone who used to visit Thekkinkad Maithanam.

Heavily inspired by this real life tale, Devarajan is currently involved in the making of a film titled 'Rajuvum Ammayum'. The film has been scripted by Madambu Kunjukuttan.

Sukumari would play the role of the mother, while Jagathy Sreekumar would play the role of Raju.

Urmila Unni, Anoop Menon, Sivaji Guruvayoor and KPAC Lalitha would support. M Jayachandran would compose the music and the lyrics will be penned by Rafeeq Ahmed.

'Rajuvum Ammayum' would be produced by the director Devarajan himself.
