Kannur, Feb.10 (NR): The delegates of the South Indian History Congress were in for a big surprise, when they found a researcher having done a study on an unlikely 'subject'.

Mohammed Fakrudeen Ali, a post graduate student in History at the University of Kerala, came up with a study on the influence of Megastar Mohanlal on the cultural and historical scenario of the state during the last twenty five years.

Mohanlal in 'Manjil Virinja Pookkal' depicts the Hippy culture of the 90's. He followed it up with several other films in which he played the jobless youngster. In films like 'Abhimanyu' and 'Nadodikattu' he has played the man who migrates from the village to the city.

Fakrudeen feels that even as Mohanlal plays a character, he does maintain an identity of his own in every film. This is quite different from the way in which the other Megastar of Malayalam films, Mammootty plays a character.

Fakrudeen's study was much discussed in the conference.
