Rowdram release put off

Nov 5, 2007 NR

The release of the Mammootty-starrer Rowdram, directed by Renji Panikcer has been put off for the time being. The news is that the film, which was scheduled to be released on November 29th, is now likely to make it to theatres only on January 26th next year. Rowdram, which has Mammootty playing a firebrand Police Officer once again, is produced by Marikkar Films. They obviously do not want the recent release Nazrani, of which they are distributors, to compete with Rowdram their own production.

There is also the possibility that Nazrani, which is not doing much business anyway, would simply vanish from the scene once Rowdram hits the screens. Moreover Marikkar Films is distributing another film this month - the Ranjith-directed Rock'nRoll. On top of that, Tamil and Hindi releases for Diwali like Azhagiya Thamizhmagan, Saawariya, and Om Shanti Om too would be out there to grab the eye balls this month. It is therefore a logical decision to postpone the film's release.

As for December, Marikkar Films is planning the Rajasenan-directed Romeo as their Christmas release. Mammootty himself has another film scheduled for the season - Katha Parayumbol. So Rowdram evidently cannot be made a Christmas release either. Thus it is that the film gets shifted to January, 2008. It's also heard that since Renji Panicker was not well for a few days, the film would not be completed in time for a November release anyway. Guess we'll have to wait till Republic Day 2008 to see the daring Assistant Commissioner Narendran in action!
