Singing actresses: Mamta, Remya and Nitya

It has become quite common these days for actresses to try their hand at singing as well. It started off with Mamta Mohandas trying out playback singing, with almost all her songs turning out to be chart busters. Mamta’s song, “Iravil Viriyum” is a beautiful song in Shyam Prasad’s recent Movie “Arike”. It was a big hit. Her first Telugu song Rakhi Rakhi fetched her Filmfare Award for Best Playback Singer in 2006.

Likewise Remya Nambeesan ventured into singing with a song in ‘Ivan Megharoopan’, and she soon followed it up with another song that turned out to be a chart buster in the film ‘Bachelor Party’. She recently sang in “Thattathin Marayathu” a romantic movie, by Vineeth Srinivasan.

Music Director Shan Rahman admires her and says: “"The song I recorded with Remya is a slow number and she has rendered it amazingly. She comes from a family with a musical background and is an amazing singer, versatile to the core.”

The latest news is that actress Nithya Menon is singing a song for the film ‘Poppins’ directed by V K Prakash. This winsome actress says she prefers playback singing to acting, “Or theatre! Certainly not films,” she laughs. The music of the film would be composed by Ratheesh Vegha. Nithya has apparently already sung a couple of songs in Telugu films.
