V.M Vinu sells tender coconut

It was a strange sight to many in the Kozhikode city! Popular director V.M. Vinu of Balettan & Vesham fame was found standing on the roadside alongside a push cart, in the middle of auto rickshaws parked just behind the Corporation Office, busy selling tender coconuts. The bearded director was quite engrossed in his work, wearing a lungi and a soiled shirt.

He emerged from behind the mobile shop shortly after to give necessary directions to his team members, who were busy shooting for his latest film, Sooryan, starring Jayaram in lead role. You guessed right. Vinu is doing a small role in the film, as a seller of tender coconuts.

It is not an uncommon thing to see directors doing such cameos in their films a la Alfred Hitchcock. Fazil, Viji Thampy, K. Madhu etc have been playing such roles in their own films. V.M. Vinu too has done that in his last film. Remember the bus passenger in his Bus Conductor?

In Sooryan, which is produced under the banner of Sreechakra Films, Vinu zooms in on a family that is dedicated to traditional music. Jayaram and Saikumar play pivotal roles with Vimala Raman playing the female lead. The shoot for the film is currently in progress.
