A film based on Chennai serial killings in the offing
Jul 22, 2008 PVSThe spate of mysterious killings of select security guards in K.K.Nagar, Vadapalani, Virugambakkam and West Mambalam areas in Chennai in the last few weeks which have sent shock waves though the City will be made into a film.
It will be a high tension thriller in the genre of Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece "Psycho", says Chittiraiselvan, who is to direct the film and handle the camera. He has earlier directed the romantic film 'Agra'.
The film to be made in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, will be centered on one police officer's quest to nab the yet- to- be identified "psychotic" killer who has struck terror in the minds of the residents.
Chittiraiselvan says that the idea of making such a film struck him after an incident took place when he was living as a bachelor at a mansion at K.K. Nagar after completing 'Agra'. "Audiences are known to relate better to films set against the backdrop of current happenings. It's just that things fell into place only now."
The story revolves around a smart young police officer who is assigned the job of tracking down the mystery man who is on the murder spree. This is his first case and how he uses his skills of deduction to nab the killer and bring him to book forms the crux of the story.
Chittiraselvan, an ardent fan of director R.K. Selvamani, says he would not glorify the acts of the killer. "We will delve into the motivations of the killer, and the ending will be blood-curdling. It will be a spine chilling film, replete with the necessary shock value and sound design."
The film will be made on a budget of Rs 3 crore by Chittiraselvan's company, Rangeela Enterprises which he has started with a few of his classmates who passed out of the MGR Film and Television Institute, Chennai. A company in Madurai will partly finance the project.
While the title of the Tamil version is yet to be finalized, the Telugu and Malayalam versions will be named 'Psycho'.
Chittiraiselvan is scoring for the actors for the lead roles.
The script and dialogue are by M Balu, while music is by award winning Mollywood composer Tashi.
According to the director, the shooting will start on Aug.18. He intends wrapping it up in 50 days.
R.K. Selvamani, whom Chittiraiselvan adores, made the highly acclaimed 'Pulan Visaranai' in 1990 based on the notorious Tiruvanmiyur serial killer 'Auto' Shanker. A sequel to 'Pulan Visaranai' is due to be released.
