A rock song in 'Puthagam' features currencies of 186 countries

A “hard rock” song played by a US band has been recorded in US for TV anchor Vijay Adhiraj’s maiden directorial venture ‘Puthagam’. The number is claimed to be the first of its kind in Tamil cinema.


The track is also stated to be unique in the sense that Madan Karky, who penned the lyric, has used in it the names of the currencies of 186 countries in the world. The song set to music by James Vasanthan, begins… “Dollar, Euro, Ruba (rupee), Ruble, Pisa, Taka…” and goes on to name the other currencies of the world. The song is also illustrated with all these currencies and coins.


The film talks of the experiences of youngsters from various countries, who have taken up jobs in Chennai and lived in one place.


Debutant Adhiraj says he is directing the film with the experience he has gained by working under different directors. He wrote the story 14 years ago based on true-life incidents. It is a commercial film with all necessary ingredients.



Dr. Ramadas and S. Manjula are producing the film on behalf of Ram Pictures. Dr. Ramadas has earlier produced ‘Yuvan Yuvathi’ and is currently producing GNR Kumaravelan’s ‘Haridas’and another film ‘Endrendum Punnagai’.



Actor Arya’s brother Satya will play the lead in ‘Puthagam’ along with Rakul Preet Singh. Telugu star Jagapathi Babu (JB in Kollywood) and Suresh Mysore play important characters. The film also features Crazy Mohan, Manobala, Santhanabharathi. Thalaivasal Vijay, Delhi Ganesh and Uma Padmanabhan.
