Director Vijay's next project after "Poi Solla Poram" is a romantic flick titled "Matharasapatnam". Actor Arya is joining him in the new project.

Kalpathi S. Agoram will produce this period film. His last production was "Santosh Subramaniam" which was a super-hit.

The film will be set in Madras of the 1940s when the British were ruling the country.

It is a love story between a local boy and a British girl. Arya will play the Madras boy. A hunt is on for a Hollywood actress to play the heroine.

One of the villains in the cast will be a white man. The buzz is Vijay is talking to the actor who played the villain in the Hindi film "Lagaan".

G.V. Prakash will score the music for all five songs for "Matharasapatnam" while Nirav Shah will handle the camera.

Art director Senthil Kumar will create the sets in a Chennai studio recreating Madras of the 1940s, including Mount Road with trams, Central Station and the old Globe Theatre. These sets will be so designed as to rekindle the memories of a grand city that was Madras in the 1940s.
