'Aasami' given U/A after appeal against rejection

‘Aasami’, which is a caricature of fake godmen and charlatans parading as swamis. Shakeela, Santhanabhrathi, Pandu and Nellai Siva play key roles in the film. Sentharamai Kannan and Andal Ramesh produced it for Lalitha Pictures.


After its being rejected by the censors, the makers went in appeal to the revising committee of the Central Board of Film Certification. On the committee’s recommendation, the film has been granted an U/A certificate.


Andal Ramesh said many fake swamis are living around the Tiruvannamalai hills. The film has been made based on these men and how they cheat gullible people


A team of censors rejected it out right on the grounds that it wounded Hindu sentiments. The makers then sought a review of the film by a revising committee. The 12-member panel watched the movie and suggested that certain dialogues be removed. After 20 cuts, the film was given an U/A certificate, according to Andal Ramesh.
