Actor Sriman to save the theatres
Apr 4, 2011 PSSriman, who has acted in more than 125 films in all South Indian languages, is donning the mantle of a producer with a movie titled 'Parimala Thiraiyarangam'. Debutant Vikas plays the lead role as a touring talkies projector operator along with Sanusha of 'Renikunda' fame. The movie is directed by Saravana Jeevan.
Says Sriman,'' The story is about a boy who has grown up watching movies in a local theatre. He is shocked when he discovers that the theatre owner has planned to demolish the structure and build a wedding hall on the premises. His efforts to save the theatre are narrated in a lighter vein''. He also recalls how the unit actually did manage to save one venerable theatre from getting bulldozed. '' It's a romantic film set against the backdrop of a touring talkies. We saw almost 450 theatres in the suburbs and rural areas in a dilapidated condition. Finally, we zeroed in on Thangaraja Talkies in Vedachandhur. When we approached the owner, he was toying with the idea of demolishing it. We spent money and art director Santhanam did a fantastic job of renovation. After we wrapped up the film shoot, the theatre owner gave up the idea of demolition and added a few new technical features, thereby giving a facelift to his cinema hall. Now we hear Vijay's 'Kaavalan' is running successfully there,'' Sriman explains with a grin.
