'Adukalam' adjudged the best at Chennai IFF

Vetrimaran's 'Adukalam' was adjudged the best at the Chennai 9th International Film Festival, which concluded on Dec.22.



'Vagai Choodavaa' won the second prize while the judges' special prize went to 'Azhagarsamyin Kuthirai'.



These three were among 16 films competed for laurels in the Tamil section. A total of 154 international films were screened at the Festival, which opened on Dec.14.



Leena Manimekalai's 'Sengadal' was also screened after protests against its being omitted from the list of films for the Indian Panorama.



'Adukalam' was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 3 lakh of which Director Vetrimaran received Rs.2 lakh and producer Kadiresan Rs.one lakh.



'Vagai Choodava' producer S. Muruganand and Director Sargunam received Rs.one lakh each.



For 'Azagarsamyin Kuthirai', its story-dialogue writer Bhaskar Sakthi received Rs. one lakh as special prize.



Veteran film-maker K.Balachander presented the prize monies to director Vetrimaran and producer Kadiresan for 'Adukalam'.



All the three judges, Madan, Pratap Pothen and Rohini, were present.
