KTVR Creative Reel's Ambuli 3D, claimed to be the first digital stereoscopic 3D film in Tamil, is a thriller based on a real-lie incident that took place way back in the 1950s. On the eve of the film's release, the story is revealed.

The film is set in 1978 around a village named Poomadandhipuram (fictional). The cornfield surrounding the village is as beautiful as it is sinister. The wild 'vellandhitharai' flowers found in clusters all over the village are what protects the villagers from the evil that lurks in the shadows of the night. The people of Poomadandhipuram for ages believed in horror-filled tales that have kept them all off the streets after sunset. Two students, Amudhan and Vendhan, who are studying in the collage near the village, plan to investigate what they believe as strange that dwells in the cornfield during their summer holidays. Both of them have their own reasons to do this investigation, for Amudhan it is his love and for Vendhan to end the fear of his father.

Directed by Hari Shankar and Haresh Narayan, the film is produced by KTVR Loganathan. Sathish G doubles up as the cinematographer and stereographer. Expert stereographer Daniel Symmes from the US trained Sathish. (A stereographer is able to calculate and tell what object will look authentic when given a 3D effect.).

The story required fresh faces to play the protagonists. The cast has also well-known actors, Radhakrishnan Parthepan (director-actor), Kalairani, Jagan, Gokulnath, Thambi Ramaiah, K.P. Jagannath, Bosskey and Uma Riaz Khan.

Parthepan's 'amazing' role in 'Ambuli is akin to those he played in 'Aayirathil Oruvan' and 'Andhapuram'.

The film is releasing only in 3D (anaglyph and polarized format). A huge sum of money has been spent on converting 2D screens into 3D. Viewers will be given 3D glasses. One million imported 3D gasses will be made available to the theatres screening the film. 'It's a village subject and we want all of Tamil Nadu to experience 3D,' the directors said. Their previous venture, 'Orr Iravu', was claimed to be the first 'view point' film in India. 'View point' enabled the viewer to live the character. In Ambuli 3D, the audience will experience the movie as if it is playing around them, they explained. Click the Movie button below for more info:
