Anita Udeep making her first Tamil film
Jul 19, 2008 PVSFilm-maker Anita Udeep, who made waves with her "Knock Knock" and "I'm looking to Marry" (2003), has now set her eyes on down south to promote 'good cinema' what with her vision and ideas.
After her recent "Gulliver's Travels" (animated film), she has ventured into making her first Tamil film titled "Kulir" which is due to release shortly.
"Kulir" is a film about six teenagers with their hostel forming the backdrop. It is a story on their lives after school, spanning four seasons, summer, autumn, spring and winter.
The film has a Hollywood-like screenplay with 'purposeful characters that grow with the movie'. No song is there for its sake as, in her view "songs build relationships…build the story". Boba Sashi's hip-hop band has been roped in to compose music for the film.
That she has now stepped in to make her first Tamil film was revealed during her chat with reporters from a multi-edition English daily. They met her at the sets of "Kulir" after they had stumbled on some "breathtaking" promotional pictures which aroused their curiosity.
How different "Kulir" would be from a film like "Thulluvadho Ilamai" that mainly dealt with infatuation? According to Anita, that was more a coming-of-age film. "Kulir", on the other hand, is a cocktail of friendship, comedy, action and adventurous fantasy. She and her team have researched for over six months and have taken great pains to work on every little detail.
"You will see things you have not seen before," Anita reportedly told them.
After passing out from Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering, Chennai, Anita went on to win awards for classical singing. Also an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, she did her Masters in Film-making at Loyola Marymount University, Los Angeles.
Her latest "Gulliver's Travels" was among the top 10 movies selected for Oscar nominations under the animated category.
