Cameraman Chandran to direct film for Elred Kumar
Jul 2, 2012 PGVRenowned cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran will be directing for the first time a film to be produced by Elred Kumar who gave several hits, including ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’.
Jiiva will play the lead in the yet-to-be titled film, which is touted as a romantic thriller. The heroine and others in the cast are being finalized.
Elred Kumar plans to shoot half of the film in Mumbai and the other half in foreign locations.
It is said it will be a big budget project in three languages. Work on it may start by August end.
This will be Ravi K. Chandran’s directorial debut. He began his career by assisting his elder brother K. Ramachandra Babu, who himself is a renowned cinematographer. Chandran became independent in 1992 by filming ‘Kilukkampetti’, a Malayalam movie, directed by Shaji Kailas. He has subsequently worked for Shaji’s many more films, including ‘Thalasthanam’.
Chandran has collaborated with leading film-makers like Priyadarshan, Mani Ratnam, Rajiv Menon and Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
His entry into Tamil cinema was in 1994 through ‘Honest Raj’ starring Vijayakanth. Notable among the films for which he handled camera were: Minsaara Kanavu, Kandukondain Kandukondain, Citizen, Kannathil Muthamittal, Boys, Aayitha Ezhuthu and Yuva.
