New producer Anbu Thennarasu is producing a Tamil film titled "Vanakamma" under the banner of Thennavan Kalaikoodam. S.N. Hariram is the director.

Saravavanan, Vishnupriyan and Bharathan are featured as heroes in this film.

The story is that Saravanan and Vishnupriyan commit a murder at the age of six and are convicted and sent to a juvenile home where they grow up. They commit another murder at the home and escape to Chennai where they find life strange. Each family is an island and cares a damn for the other families in the neighbourhood even in emergencies and when untoward incidents occur. The two men decide to exploit this attitude of the people of Chennai and turn thieves. They mark their targets during day time going round asking for charity dressed as Rama, Krishna and Hanuman. At night they enter the marked houses and make away with money and other valuables.

Wall posters and invitation cards for the pooja function carried the pictures of Saravanan and Vishnupriyan posing as Rama and Hanuman.(See Picture). The posters appeared all over the city. This drew protests from Hindu Munnai. A large number of Hindu Munnani cadres had gathered outside the AVM Studios where the film was to be launched and staged a demonstration. The function had to be cancelled.

Producer Thennarasu and Director Hariram have now changed the controversial 'reconnaissance' scenes to make the lead characters look like fortunetellers (not as gods) moving from door to door with liveried bullocks.
