Chennai International Film Fest begins on December 15

The 8th Chennai International Film Festival organized by Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation (ICAF) will be held from Dec. 15-23. For the first time, ICAF is being supported by Film Federation of India and South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce.


At a press conference organized in Chennai recently, actor Parthipan said, 'We are looking for sponsors among Corporate and donations from the film fraternity.'


The state government has sanctioned Rs. 25 lakhs for the fest. Initiating the fest are a galaxy of stars including actors Revathy, Suhasini, Radhika Sarath Kumar, Lizzy Priyadarshan and Mohan to mention a few.


Around 130 films from 40 countries are scheduled for screening at Woodlands, Woodlands Symphony, Inox and South Indian Chamber of Commerce. Most of these films have participated at Cannes, 2010 and Berlin 2010 and Venice 2010. There will be sections on world cinema (non-competitive), tributes, premiers and Indian Panorama as well. This year, films focusing on Finland and The Netherlands will be screened too. The Retrospective section will showcase films of Italian director, Bernardo Bertolucci, Elio Germano, Italian actor and Emir Kusturica from Serbia. There will be a competitive section for Tamil feature films.


The highlight every day would be the screening of the Best Film at Inox theaters at 9pm, when distinguished guests will be given a red carpet reception. Two open forums on different topics are also planned.


Actor S.V.Sekar said the aim of the fest is to provide a platform for the film fraternity and to understand cultures from other countries. It will inspire several young directors and students. Apart from the first and second prizes, an individual award will be presented to a crew member. 'It can be an actor or a director or a technician,' said Revathy.


'This award is being designed by world renowned sculptor Nandagopal. This memento will become a symbol of the Chennai Film festival and an honour to possess,' she added.
