Chennai, March 21 (IANS) The re-release success of debutant director Mishkin's "Chithiram Pesuthadi" has surprised the Tamil film industry.

When the film first hit the screens sans publicity it sank in the first week itself. But noted producer Oscar Ravichandrn saw great potential in the film and decided to re-release it with a lot of publicity. And the film has struck gold at the box office.

The top five Tamil films are:

1. "Chithiram Pesuthadi" - Director: Mishkin - The success of this film shows that any good product can fail if it's not marketed well. Oscar Ravichandran came as a messiah for director Mishkin and newcomers Narain and Bhavana, both well-known in Kerala.

2. "Kalvanin Kadhali" - Director: Tamilvaanan - The film had a great opening and was holding a top position till "Chithiram Pesuthadi" was re-released.

3. "Dishyum" - Director: Sasi - "Dishyum" has proved to be a success only in the cities. Anyway the film has made good profit.

4. "Sudeshi" - Director: Jay Pee - Only for the Vijayakanth fans. It had poor collections in the first week.

5. "Thambi" - Director: Seeman - "Thambi" is one of the bad decisions taken by Madhavan in his career. It can also be described as one of the biggest flops of his career despite huge publicity.
