Climax of 'Kireedom' changed

Actor Ajith's action drama "Kireedom" has undergone some changes in the climax scenes after its global release recently. This has been done to keep Ajith fans and repeat audiences happy, according to sources close to the producer, Suresh Balaji.

In the original, Ajith was projected as a loser towards the end and this was not acceptable to a large section of the fans and audiences. The sad ending is said to have affected the collections at the box-office in centers other than Chennai.

The changed climax is that the hero Shakthivel (Ajith) kills the criminal wanted by the police and a voice-over which immediately follows says the court has pardoned him. The film ends with a shot of Ajith in the police uniform saluting his father, Rajarajan (Raj Kiran), a policeman himself, whose life's ambition was to make his son also a policeman of honesty and integrity.

Even while shooting the climax scenes, the producer had his own doubts, but Director Vijay and Ajith wanted that they should stick to the original version, the sources said. However, as a back-up, changes in the climax had been shot simultaneously and a censor clearance obtained prior to the film's release.

The feedback indicated the need to change the climax as anticipated to keep the fans happy. The only other film which had its original climax changed after its release was Sivaji-starrer "Vasantha Maaligai" 35 years ago. The producer was Rama Naidu. The film ended on a sad note with the hero dying. This upset the fans of the late thespian and the back-up shots with a happy ending were used replacing the original climax scenes.
