'Dam999' draws protest, Prasad Lab vandalised

The English film 'Dam 999' drew violent protests from political parties and some Tamil outfits in Tamil Nadu on Nov 22.. A group of cadres of a political party forced their way into Prasad Lab at Saligramam in Chennai and damaged property and destroyed the film roles in the store room..


The incident took place ahead of a preview of the film scheduled for the evening. Police arrested 23 cadres on charges of trespassing, rioting and criminal intimidation. The protesters objected to the screening of the film as they believed that it is based on the Mullaperiyar dam issue involving Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The film depicts the dangers likely to be caused by the breach a dam.


Malayalam film-maker Sohan Roy, who directed the film said in a statement the movie is based on the true story of the Banquiao dam collapse which killed 2.5 lakh people in China in 1975. He affirmed that 'Dam 999' has nothing to do with any dam in India or Tamil Nadu. But he made the film inspired by the Mullaiperiyar tangle. Click the Movie button below for more info:
