'Dasavatharam' audio release put off

Mar 28, 2008 PVS

The audio release of the much-hyped Kamal-starrer 'Dasavatharam', scheduled for April 2, has been postponed to April 25. This means that the actual release of the film will be further delayed.

The audio release was originally fixed for March 14 and producer Oscar Ravichandran and his brother Ramesh Babu had met Jackie Chan in Hong Kong and invited him for the function in Chennai. The function has been put off to April 2 and then to April 25 for undisclosed reasons. Ravichandran is keen on bringing Chan to Chennai to release the audio. He went public recently stating that there would be no audio release without the legendary action hero.

The Nehru Indoor Stadium is being decked up for the grand show on April 25. The gorgeous setting at the stadium would resemble the Hollywood auditorium where the Oscar awards are presented.

Dismissing reports about the delay in releasing the 'magnum opus' as speculation and rumours, the director K.S. Ravikumar has been quoted as saying in an interview that computer graphics (CG) are taking time. The three-hour movie comprises 2-1/2 hours of CG. Hong Kong-based VA is doing the graphics for the awesome tsunami on a two-acre spread which was artificially created and filmed at Uthandi on ECR Road, near Chennai. V.A did the graphics for the Hollywood film "Day After Tomorrow".

As the film is to be released simultaneously in Telugu and Hindi also there was need to get the inputs from the perspectives of these languages.

About 50 Hollywood technicians had to be brought from US to train local technicians. For the visual effects, Bryan from Los Angeles had come to work with the unit.

Music direction has also suffered a setback. Himmesh Reshammiya has not done the music score for the film. He has composed five songs and remixed one. After three songs, Reshammiya, an actor himself, could not work full time.

On newspaper reports that Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and AIADMK general secretary J. Jayalalitha did cameos, Ravikumar is emphatic that only some clippings of them were inserted to make for a more realistic appeal in some scenes.
